Part 2
I’m Told I Need To Blog More About Improv…
I grew up in Oil City, Pennsylvania. It’s a small town of 9,000 people located halfway between Erie & Pittsburgh, and until a few moments ago when I googled its population, I genuinely believed it to be half that size. But I digress.
When I was 5 years old, I knew emphatically that I wanted to become an actor when I grew up. I mean, who WOULDN’T want to become an actor?! The attention, the prestige, the notoriety…AND I get paid to play pretend?! YES PLEASE!
But life has a funny way of beating you down and telling you that you either can’t, won’t, or aren’t supposed to do a thing. And that was true of my experience growing up. Everywhere I expressed my desires, I was discouraged to follow them. I was taught the principle of “NO, AND”, meaning, “NO, you can’t do that, AND here’s why…”.
Now, years later (and thanks to my improvisational training), I get to teach people how to embrace their desires by the encouragement of YES, AND (saying YES to their desires, AND how to make them happen)!
#Improv is an art form of #encouragement, #discovery, #passion, #SelfExploration, #accomplishment, and #Fulfillment. It #challenges & #confronts us to face our #fears, and demands we #PayAttention to everything around us!
I am a better version of myself both personally and professionally because of improv.
